Colonic hydrotherapy is a procedure involving the gentle infusion of warm filtered water into the rectum to cleanse the large intestines. It triggers peristalsis, aiding in the expulsion of water and waste, and is facilitated with abdominal massage by the practitioner.

The process of colonic irrigation can be uncomfortable for some but is generally not painful. The infusion of water may cause a sensation of fullness or pressure, but it is designed to be a gentle and controlled procedure.
